Wandile Duba scored three goals as Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup, defeating TS Galaxy 3-0 on Tuesday evening.
After a scoreless first half, Duba found the net just three minutes into the second half at the FNB Stadium.
He successfully scored again in the 63rd minute and quickly completed his hat-trick three minutes later, securing a decisive victory for Amakhosi.
This win was particularly important following the club’s earlier exit from the CAF Confederation Cup against Red Arrows.
The Chiefs started strong, with Duba testing TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Mathebula with an early attempt.
He combined well with Sibongiseni Mthethwa to create another opportunity, but Mathebula saved once more.
Pule Mmodi missed a chance to score just before half-time, shooting wide from a promising position.
Although there were some anxious moments for the home fans at the break, Duba quickly lifted their spirits by converting a cross from Mmodi just after the second half began.
Mfundo Vilakazi had a chance to extend Chiefs’ lead with a penalty, but Mathebula made a crucial save. Duba, however, was on hand to net the rebound.
The prolific forward then wrapped up the scoring after receiving a well-placed pass from Rushwin Dortley, finishing past an onrushing Mathebula.
Mathebula had to be substituted by Sipho Maseti in the closing minutes due to injury, but the new goalkeeper had little action as the match was already decided.
Amakhosi substitute Flavio da Silva did nearly add to the tally, but his late effort hit the post after he found space for a shot.
