VHEMBE: Authorities in Musina apprehended a 48-year-old man on Thursday night, May 7, 2026, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Matswale Phase 12, located in the Vhembe District.
The revelation came to light on Friday, May 8, 2026, when the young girl returned from school and exhibited unusual behavior, prompting her mother to inquire about her day. During this conversation, the child revealed that her neighbor had followed her to the restroom the previous evening, covered her mouth, and raped her. The perpetrator allegedly threatened her life if she spoke about the attack.
The incident was promptly reported to the Musina Police Station. Following the report, the girl was taken to a hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed the sexual assault. Relevant authorities were swiftly notified, and the case was referred to the Musina Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for specialized handling.
In a timely response, FCS Unit members arrested the suspect shortly after the case was opened. He is anticipated to face charges of rape in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed strong condemnation of the incident. “This is a despicable act committed against an innocent child by a person who was trusted as a neighbour. No child should ever have to endure such trauma in their own community.”
“As we observe Child Protection Month, I want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of every child in this province. We will not rest until every perpetrator who preys on our children faces the full might of the law,” concluded Lt. General Hadebe.
