Renowned South African musician Muzi has unveiled the official music video for Uhlanga, featuring Zoë Modiga, on 1 May. This song is part of his forthcoming album ELECTRIC ZULULAND, which is scheduled for release on 15 May 2026.
The composition draws its inspiration from Nguni mythology, narrating a tale of human origins linked to the belief that life arose from the reeds. Muzi transforms this concept into a captivating audio-visual journey, skillfully merging natural motifs, narrative elements, and contemporary production techniques to create a work that resonates with both history and modernity.
“Uhlanga is the Zulu word for reeds. In Nguni mythology that’s where people come from” says Muzi, “Our garden of Eden. So I imagined what that start, that early world creation process would sound like. It’s why the song starts the way it does, in a heavy storm. Then obviously in this scenario, we would need a goddess, Mother Earth and that’s where Zoë Modiga comes in. I’m a big fan of what she does and her bravery in her artistry. So finally having a chance to work with her, I wanted to make it magical.”
Muzi, a prominent figure in South Africa’s contemporary music scene, known for merging electronic sounds with Zulu culture and storytelling, collaborates with Zoë Modiga, a distinguished vocalist celebrated for her soulful, jazz-influenced, and deeply expressive style, in the visual narrative of Uhlanga.
