There is increasing pressure on Metro FM to take action against media figure Somizi Mhlongo following a video in which he made remarks about South Africans that sparked significant online backlash.
Although the video was deleted, the anger from the public has not subsided. On 31 July 2026, X user @Radebe_merci tweeted directly at Metro FM, saying:
“Hi @METROFMSA, deleting that video of Somizi is not enough. Many listeners are concerned about the remarks he has made about South Africans. We believe Metro FM should take these concerns seriously and ensure that its presenters uphold standards that respect the audience.”

This tweet resonated with many, highlighting a sense of dissatisfaction with the station’s response. Demands for Somizi’s dismissal have intensified since the video gained circulation, with various listeners threatening to stop tuning in to Metro FM until the situation is adequately addressed.
This situation has drawn parallels to the 2019 firing of DJ Fresh from the station, reigniting discussions around how Metro FM handles presenter behavior.
Mzansi reacts to calls to fire Somizi
Public reactions have been starkly divided, with some demanding consequences while others advise caution in light of the call for action.

“Somizi must just go stay in Nigeria 🇳🇬 once and do radio 📻 that side.”
