South African musician achieved significant recognition at the 2026 American Music Awards held in Las Vegas, where she won two prestigious awards.

The artist claimed the Best Afrobeats Artist title for the second consecutive year, outperforming notable African artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, and Moliy, in a category decided by fan votes.

Additionally, she made history by being the first international winner of the Social Song of the Year award for her popular track Chanel.

The 52nd American Music Awards were hosted at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, with Queen Latifah returning as host after first co-presenting the event in 1995.

Despite Tyla’s absence from the ceremony, her influence was palpable throughout the proceedings.

Her song Chanel, which emphasizes themes of confidence and self-esteem, has already surpassed 354 million streams on Spotify and has reached eighth place on the Spotify Global chart.

This milestone also marked her as the first African artist to attain multiple Top 10 hits within the global Spotify rankings.

The AMAs are determined by public votes, music sales, streaming statistics, and social media engagement, underscoring Tyla‘s consecutive wins as a reflection of her expanding international audience, affectionately known as the Tygers.

Having achieved recognition as a four-time AMA winner, Tyla is now also the most nominated African artist in the award show’s history.
