The vehicle reportedly involved in the hit-and-run that resulted in the death of MultiChoice security officer David Sejobe has been located, following days of significant online advocacy and public demand for justice.
Sejobe lost his life on Saturday after being struck by a car while he was cycling to work along the Golden Highway in Orange Farm.
The driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving the beloved security guard seriously injured.
Known to many South Africans through a billboard located near the MultiChoice premises, Sejobe served for many years as a front-of-house security guard at the company’s Randburg offices.
Colleagues remembered him as a friendly and approachable person who greeted everyone entering the gates. He is survived by three children.
In the aftermath of his death, social media users came together to assist in identifying the vehicle, sharing details, photographs, and tips as authorities sought dashcam footage and reports of damaged cars.
The focus quickly shifted to a grey Volvo that community members noted had been parked near a church in Vlakfontein, showing signs of tire damage before leaving the area.
Recent online updates indicate that the vehicle has now been found.
Nevertheless, the South African Police Service has yet to confirm whether any arrests have taken place.
As the inquiry advances, an outpouring of tributes for Sejobe has emerged, including gatherings outside MultiChoice offices to honor his memory.
A crowdfunding initiative established to support his family has amassed over R500,000, highlighting the profound effect his life and untimely death have had on the community.
The police continue to encourage anyone with information pertaining to the case to step forward.
Information can be reported to Siyathemba SAPS at 087 630 1000 or to Warrant Officer Lebogang Toyane at 082 454 3746.
Funeral arrangements are being made, and calls for accountability are growing louder as Johannesburg remembers David Sejobe for his kindness and resilience, serving as a powerful reminder of the impact of collective action under the hashtag #JusticeForDavidSejobe.
