Zuluboy, a key figure in South African hip-hop and a cultural advocate, has made a notable return to the music scene after a two-year break. The acclaimed lyricist has released a new single titled “Freedom” to commemorate Nelson Mandela International Day.
This marks Zuluboy’s first project since moving to New York City in 2024. With a fresh outlook influenced by his experiences abroad yet firmly rooted in his heritage, the experienced artist offers a track that honors Nelson Mandela’s lasting influence while addressing the continuous struggle for freedom, dignity, and opportunity.
“Freedom is a powerful anthem of resilience, hope and self-determination that speaks to the enduring strength of the human spirit,” says Zuluboy. “The timing of the release on Mandela Day is deeply intentional. The dream of the opportunities that freedom brings is one worth fighting for and keeping alive, just as Nelson Mandela did.”
Although his absence from music releases has been felt, Zuluboy emphasizes that his enthusiasm for music has always been present.
“The significance of my return is my love for music. I never stopped recording. I make music because I love it—it’s something I hear and feel. Whether I’m releasing it or not, it’s something I’ll never stop doing.”
