Dineo Ranaka and Nandi Madida
Dineo Ranaka has addressed the backlash following her public reaction to Nandi Madida’s commentary on financial expectations within relationships, clarifying that her statements were misinterpreted and exaggerated.
<pThe radio and television host ignited a discussion after expressing her discomfort with Madida’s comments during an episode of the L-Tido Podcast.
Ranaka’s comments soon drew significant online criticism, leading to widespread discussion in the media.
On Sunday, she spoke out on Instagram, stating that the volume of press inquiries sparked by her viral remarks compelled her to clarify her position.
She countered the developing narrative around her viewpoint, highlighting that her words had been taken out of context.
Ranaka pointed out that systems of historical oppression in South Africa impact black individuals collectively, rather than distinguishing between genders, and questioned why empathy seemed to favor men alone.
“Before a ‘system’ affects an individual, it impacts a people. My example stands,” she wrote.
She dismissed any attempts to connect her comments to her personal experiences or romantic life, labeling such connections as irrelevant and simplistic.
“So where does my poor choice in men enter the chat when I didn’t even once make an example using mojolo? I didn’t speak of GBV? And I didn’t touch on marriage and husbands this, wives that,” Ranaka stated.
In her response to the social media reaction, she criticized the tendency of South Africans to react with anger without fully capturing the complexities of the issue.
“You see how we lack depth as a people? ALWAYS quick to take offence and never interested to give comprehension,” she added.
