Union Berlin has made a landmark decision by appointing Marie-Louise Eta as the interim head coach for the men’s team until June. Softfootball reports that she is the first female to lead a Bundesliga men’s side.
Her appointment was shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano through his official X channel, marking her succession of Steffen Baumgart after the team experienced a 3–1 loss to FC Heidenheim.
Romano stated:
Historical decision by Union Berlin as German club appoint Marie-Louise Eta as their head coach until June. Union lost at Heidenheim, sacked the head coach Steffen Baumgart and put Marie-Louise Eta in charge until the end of the season. Ets becomes the first female head coach in the history of men’s Bundesliga.
The 34-year-old has already made a mark within the organization, having previously guided Union’s U19 team to an unbeaten league title and served as an assistant coach to the senior squad. Her new role is a significant step forward in the narrative of German football.

In other news, at Bayern Munich, Jamal Musiala has turned down advice from Oliver Kahn to forgo the 2026 World Cup. He is currently in recovery from a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle he sustained during the Club World Cup.

Musiala is resolved to represent the German national team while also making contributions at the club level.
Union Berlin, currently ranked 11th in the Bundesliga, seeks to secure their season under Eta’s guidance as they prepare for a stretch of important matches. She holds a UEFA Pro Licence and was already set to lead the club’s women’s team next season, reinforcing confidence in her capabilities.
This appointment reflects a forward-thinking approach by Union Berlin as they tackle challenges both on and off the field.
